Road Trip: Day 1
Buddies since 6th grade, almost sisters as well as best friends, we looked forward to our "Thelma and Louise" adventure sans shootings and driving off cliffs. Leaving winter behind at 9:00 AM, it was an easy drive to Beaufort, NC, the end of our first leg. We pulled in at 4:00 PM anxious to enjoy the coast, a sailor's milieu.
We dumped the suitcases at the hotel in Morehead City, then hustled over to the town dock for a pre-dinner libation on the deck over the harbor master's office, where we gazed over the over the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) as the quiet, laziness of the place soaked into our skin. Then we strolled down the dock to the Stillwater restaurant, as recommended by the harbor master, for a luscious dinner of low country shrimp and grits with rich Tasso gravy. It doesn't get much better than this, does it?
